Born and raised in Sudbury, Michael has been playing jazz in the Sudbury area for the past 15 years. He has studied saxophone locally with Jean-Yves Begin and Allan Walsh, and in Toronto with Mike Murley and Kirk McDonald. Michael then completed a degree in music from Laurentian University.

While pursuing a master's degree at the University of Western Ontario Michael performed in the London, Ontario area with the renowned noise band the 'Nihilist Spasm Band', also playing jazz under his own name in the London, Burlington and Kingston areas.

The music Michael plays is firmly rooted in post bop/modern jazz era with major influences being the music of Joe Henderson, Sonny Rollins, Seamus Blake and Ken Vandermark.

This is Michael's first time playing at the Sudbury Jazz Festival and he is very excited to be a part of this burgeoning Northern Ontario event.
